One might assume that wind is beneficial for electricity generation within the EU—and naturaly it is - to some extent. However, when it is very windy in Northern Europe, wind turbines generate large quantities of electricity. If production exceeds both demand and export capacity, the price of electricity can turn negative. This means that electricity producers may actually have to pay to supply electricity, which can result in wind farm owners losing money by continuing to generate power.
The question now is whether we can find better ways to store electricity, allowing the EU to make full use of this power generation.
